What makes a creative hobbie project so GREAT!
The importance of hobbies and projects a long with some personal projects I'm working on
This post is part of a monthly newsletter known as "Creative Snippets" where I Sodapam share snippets of my life being a Creative. If your interested in being the first to know what I get up to each month consider subscribing! (It's free!!)
Hey there,
I’m so glad your back for this month’s newsletter. I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve written to you about my Creative adventures, so I’m so excited to share with you what I’ve been up to lately.
Recently I’ve been very busy expanding my creative horizons trying new techniques such as sewing and painting on glass and it’s been very eye opening. So I’ve given myself some projects that I thought I would be interested in as a way to put new hobbies to use.
Which leads me to the point of this newsletter: I believe everyone should have a personal creative hobbie project of some kind whether or not they are an artist.
Trial and error
Hobby Projects for me have helped to challenge my mind and helped me to remember that “You don’t have to be amazing at the craft you just have to be passionate and willing to learn/fail on your first couple of tries.”
A great example of this is my sewing journey which began with my love for cottagecore dresses leading to a rabbit hole of wanting to create my own clothes. So for my first project I decided to make a tote bag so that I could get a hang of using my sewing machine.
And let’s just say it was a pretty huge fail but I honestly don’t think I would of been able to sew as well today if I hadn’t done that project. And who knows maybe one day I’ll redo this tote bag project!
Exploring your creativity
“Another thing that makes these projects so great is the ability to allow you to narrow down and explore you curiosity/creativity.”
Personally I’ve always had such a bad experience with painting, mostly because my painting process always felt so rigid with no room to experiment. So when I knew I had a graded assignment in which I had already told my teacher that I was doing a painting for, I knew something had to change.
So I decided to let go of the idea of perfection for the idea of fun!
And it turned out pretty great I love the layers and I really enjoyed painting Jane Austen at the center with Elinor and Marriane in the back.
Take BREAKS whenever!
I’ve also found that because their’s no pressure to create so I can take a break from that project when I’m no longer interested!
I know for me I’m currently working on a crochet top that I started a couple months ago but I took a step back from it knowing that I might not ever come back to that project because I just wasn’t passionate about it anymore. But I recently I got inspired to go back into finishing the project with completely different plans for how I want to finish it.
And that’s all for what I’ve been up to recently. Now back to you! What hobbie projects are you working on? Or What are your favorite hobbies? If you found this helpful consider sharing or forwarding this to someone!
(P.S This is pretty late so thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter I really appreciate it!!)
