Ok now on to this months topic!
My relationship with sketchbooks
So you might of noticed. I’m not really a “share your sketchbook on social media or anywhere” kind of gal, and honestly I probably won’t ever be that kind of artist, which is really funny because if you look back through the archives of this newlsletter you’ll find videos and post of my sketchbook.
And yet I was never truly comfortable sharing the pages of my sketchbook because I often felt the pressure to create something good and we all know that when you try to force something good it doesn’t always end up being good. And it would ultimately ruin my sketchbook experience..
Now by my definition
A sketchbook is your own personal space where you get to try out dumb ideas and have a good time along the way (maybe even have a good laugh)
And though I haven’t fully reached my sketchbook’s “ULTIMATE POTENTIAL” it’s definitely an improvement from back when I did share pages from my sketchbook online.
I’ve found that I have a clearer idea of what I love and hate to draw and I actually enjoy opening my sketchbook to draw now!
Personally I have no problem with others sharing pages from their sketchbook. I just find that it doesn’t work for me and just creates a perfection mindset and TRUST ME my sketchbooks are far from perfect..
But anyways that’s it for me! What is your relationship with sketchbooks? Do you like sharing your sketchbook pages online? Or do you like to keep things more on the personal side?
(P.S. Happy 4th of July!)
